The 'Ick' Factor

Some things are just kind of gross here in Korea. My school has these anti-smoking posters up in the hall. They're overly graphic, lots of diseased and rotting things.

There is a restaurant down the street from me. It has a fish tank outside with what I believe to be puffer fish in it. They're on the menu. Here's some shots of the condemned.

With the world cup going on something strange has been going on in my school. Everyday now students are coming into the office with big wounds. I thought about this a while and came to one conclusion. Monkey see... monkey do. These kids are watching the world cup and then coming to school and playing extreme soccer. Here is an example. The leg belongs to the student in the black jacket.

Last, and certatinly least, big bugs. You've never seen bugs this big. Wooo.... check out this one that was dead on the floor. It's quite beautiful in a macabre kind of way.

that, my friend, is a Prometheus Moth in all it's velvety taupe furriness...

when i was little, i went thru my moth stage, where all i wanted to do is find either a Prometheus or Cecropia moth cocoon and see the moth emerge and release it...i never did find that cocoon...

i also wanted to grow a mulberry tree and raise silkworms and make silk...wasn't able to do that either...

ugh, that bruise looks almost exactly like a bruise i got stepping into the path of a vicious raquetball line drive except it was on the inner leg. It was that size and shape and took almost a year to go totally away. that's nasty! tell that kid it will turn every color of the rainbow if it hasn't already!

that smoking poster is not a good thing to look at this early in the morning...ick! well, it would never be good!

so, does it keep those kids from smoking?

That is not a bruise Shari, it's a giant skinned up bloody scabby thing. The anit-smoking poster doesn't stop anyone from smoking. Remember the students with the yellow banner of shame???

ah yes, the yellow banner of shame, pardone me!

well, my racquetball bruise was big, but it was not scabby....but i could tell you about what i got sliding on cement from a rollerblading fall....

i'm afraid you're liking it so much there you're not coming back!
